Job Description

The Certified Medical Assistant specializing in wound care will work under the direction of the Practice Manager and Nurse Practitioner. The role entails recognizing patient needs in advance, providing care under the direction of the physician or NP, preparing patients for wound procedures in various settings, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care, as well as maintaining electronic medical records. Patient/family education is also an essential aspect of this position. This is a travel position primarily outside the clinic, requiring the operation of a company vehicle and extensive driving.

Responsibilities, Roles, and Functions

Wound Care Visit

  • Obtain vital signs and assist with positioning the patient for treatment, prep, and drape the field for amniotic allograft placement.
  • Assist with dressing changes and wound debridement in coordination with the provider.
  • Clean all supplies and package used tools and supplies for disposal.

Wound Travel and Professional Driving

  • Operate the company vehicle obeying all traffic laws and posted speed limits as per company policy.
  • Pre-gas and clean the vehicle daily and the interior weekly, based on patient census, and pack the vehicle with necessary medical supplies.
  • Use a hands-free environment when operating the vehicle and prioritize work calls and texts, determining whether they can wait until the vehicle is stopped.

Wound Supplies

  • Manage wound documentation and supply per patient need and inventory and replenish all wound supplies in coordination with the Practice Manager and the Provider.
  • Assist with completion of WCR orders, pack and replenish wound “go bags” with supplies.

Wound Care Coordination and Scheduling

  • Work with the Practice Manager to manage daily wound visits and consultation schedules while optimizing driving routes.
  • Call patients the day prior and while enroute to confirm appointments and approximate arrival times, and manage wound visit schedule in the EMR.

Experience

  • EMR systems (Athena): 1 year (Preferred)
  • Vital signs: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification

  • BLS Certification (Required)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (Required)
