Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: $55,500 - $58,000 annually

Contact Community Services Inc is seeking a Student Assistance Program Counselor to provide individual and group counseling, education, consultation, and referral services to adolescents and their families participating in a school-based substance abuse prevention and early intervention program. This 10.5-month position offers paid summers off.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and assess students and families to determine necessary treatment and provide services for substance abuse prevention.
  • Monitor and evaluate client progress and collaborate with school support staff and community professionals.
  • Design and conduct educational groups, programs, and awareness activities for students, school staff, parents, and community groups.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate written and electronic case records in compliance with OASAS standards and collect and report outcome data.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field with a New York State license (LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC) and CASAC preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of post-master's professional work experience in mental health or substance abuse counseling, with specialized diagnostic skills and counseling techniques for adolescents.
  • Knowledgeable in counseling principles, practices, and clinical techniques, adolescent development and behavior, mental health and substance abuse services, and the public school system.

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass background checks by the Office of Mental Health, NYS Justice Center, and NYS Department of Education, and possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and independent auto insurance.
  • Expected to work between 35 and 40 hours per week, involving extensive walking and driving.
