Diesel or Automotive Mechanic - Freeport and Hempstead Schools

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Diesel Mechanic to join our team and work at Freeport and Hempstead Schools. As a Diesel Mechanic at First Student, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing school buses to ensure safety and vehicle readiness. You will also provide guidance to lower-level technicians and assist with various tasks such as preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and equipment repairs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and annual DOT maintenance inspections.
• Diagnose and perform repairs on vehicle components like brakes, suspensions, and drivetrains.
• Ensure accurate completion of work orders.
• Provide assistance with mobile emergency services.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license with willingness to obtain CDL (training provided).
• 1-5 years of automotive or diesel maintenance experience or technical school education.
• Possess a mechanic's tool set.
• Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical requirements.
