Diesel or Automotive Mechanic - Freeport and Hempstead Schools

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Diesel or Automotive Mechanic to join our team at First Student. As the largest school transportation provider in North America, we offer a rewarding work environment with great benefits.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and vehicle readiness.
• Provide guidance to lower-level technicians.
• Assist with preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and annual DOT maintenance inspections.
• Diagnose and repair vehicle components such as brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions.
• Ensure accurate completion of work orders.
• Assist with mobile emergency services.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license required; Willingness to obtain CDL while employed.
• 1-5 years of automotive or diesel maintenance & repair experience or technical school education.
• Possess a mechanic's tool set.
• Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical.
